The trend from Anglo-Saxon clinics is to prevent rather than correct. Decade by decade, what is genuinely useful — and what is premature.
There is no right age to start, there is a state of skin. Useful prevention begins with daily sun protection, long before any device; technologies come afterwards, when the skin shows its first objective signs — loss of glow, pigment marks, dehydration lines. Starting too early prepares nothing: it simply keeps busy a skin that needs nothing.
Where prejuvenation comes from
The word comes from Anglo-Saxon clinics and says exactly what it means: act before, so there is less to correct after. The idea rests on a simple fact — collagen production declines gradually from the twenties onward, and maintaining a reserve is easier than rebuilding one.
It is also a reaction to what came before. A generation watched late, spectacular corrections and wants none of it. Prevention has become the most discreet aesthetic gesture there is.
Before 25: almost nothing, and that is the right answer
At that age skin renews quickly and produces collagen without help. The only real issue is the sun, responsible for most visible skin ageing. An occasional skin-quality treatment — deep cleansing, hydration — makes sense; stimulating collagen in skin that is already making it does not.
- Useful: daily sun protection, suitable cleansing, acne treatment if needed.
- Pointless: anti-ageing protocols of any kind.
- Worth watching: acne scarring, which responds far better when addressed early.
Between 25 and 35: maintaining the reserve
This is the window where prejuvenation genuinely makes sense. The first signs appear — a duller complexion, more visible pores, dehydration lines — without any laxity being established. The work is on skin quality, with gentle collagen stimulation begun in series and without excess.
- HydraFacial as regular maintenance, to keep hydration and clarity of texture.
- Carbon Peeling or microneedling as a short course, depending on texture and scarring.
- Photorejuvenation if the first sun spots appear: they will not clear on their own.
Between 35 and 45: moving to stimulation
Collagen now declines faster than it rebuilds, and it shows first along the contour of the face. This is when a course of radiofrequency finds its place, and when a first HIFU becomes worth discussing — not to lift a fallen face, but to slow laxity that is starting. Treating early laxity takes less energy than catching up with established laxity.
After 45: prevention becomes correction
The vocabulary changes, the tools stay the same. You are no longer preventing, you are treating: HIFU on the jawline and neck, radiofrequency as maintenance, microneedling on texture, photorejuvenation on accumulated pigment. The result is real but more gradual, and it needs upkeep. This is also the age at which it becomes important to hear the limits of non-surgical work.
The three classic mistakes of prevention
- Piling treatments onto skin that does not need them: you irritate it instead of protecting it.
- Neglecting sun protection while running protocol after protocol: emptying the bath without turning off the tap.
- Choosing a treatment because it is fashionable rather than because a diagnosis indicated it.
